the festive issue cover

4 girls having themselves a chat discussing why a book shouldn’t be judged by it’s cover, nor a boy by his zari embroidered saree and shade of lipstick.

The month of November marks the beginning of the festive season and no one does lights and celebrations better than us. But within us, there are smaller regions, towns, cities and places which up the ante an create a spectacular show. One such town is Thripunithura, in Kerela, very close to Cochin. They have a massive festival called Atham, which I had the good fortune of attending.

A festival where the men have no qualms wearing a bra and putting on more make up than a magazine uses for it’s cover shots in a year. Where the warmth is infectious and the beauty of their revelry in god easily overpowers the filthy slush outside. Where the love in their eyes and devotion is a lesson for the lashing rains and angry storms outside.

Welcome, to the festive issue. Welcome to yet another series from our travels. Welcome to god’s own country where I’m surrounded by fancy-pants¬†gods, welcome to Kerela.
