This boy who once told me, “All this while I wandered, now I’m finally home.”

This boy who calls me love, like it’s my name.

This boy who makes the coming year suddenly feel quite like home.

2016 was this endless journey I didn’t sign up to take, forgetting to pack a  map and a compass, with miles of unknown ahead of me.

I got pulled into a black hole, not just any black hole, but straight out of an episode of Cosmos, complete with horrifying accurate graphics and Neil Degrasse Tyson’s voice ringing through my head constantly narrating a story of sadness and world ends. That’s an almost opposite of what Cosmos is about and this is me telling you to go watch the show, it is EPIC. More epic than all my lifelong clumsiness and poor luck, more epic in fact than how often in the last year I ranted about the year sucking bollocks. So I’m glad the year is ending because I started negotiating on the terms and conditions of 2017, a while back itself and my lawyer is almost certain we’ll win this one.

For a dumpster of a year however, great things did happen. I managed to travel quite a bit, got certified as a diver and stumbled upon this boy. Which is the most important.

This Mallu-Goan boy, speaking in fluent haryanvi, with shades of Delhi drama and a whiff of High-society kitty party attendees. This boy who makes up the funniest songs, is willing to pole dance for a living, scared me off the first time he spoke to me and would have ‘Thug Life’ as his background score if he could.

This boy who drives with my hand in his constantly, who calls me just to tell me he misses me, who drinks chai all day if I feel like it,  who makes time to come to see me during work hours and remembers to carry his cardigan knowing I’ll get cold in the movie theatre.

This boy who once told me, “All this while I wandered, now I’m finally home.”

This boy who calls me love, like it’s my name.

This boy who makes the coming year suddenly feel quite like home.
